WHAT ARE YOUR SERVICE FEES?
The cost of an accountant can vary significantly depending on what services you require them to carry out. Every business and individual has different accounting needs, and we are here for each and every financial challenge. At EConsult, our rates are very affordable and we discuss all of our fees upfront, so there are no surprises. After the first year of service, we can work on a fixed cost basis, billed on a quarterly basis. At EConsult, we offer Fixed Fee Bookkeeping Packages. Traditional hourly billing is a thing of the past. We aren't your electricity provider, we want you to know exactly what you're paying before we commence work to avoid any nasty surprises.
HOW LONG SHOULD I KEEP MY TAX RECORDS FOR?
Generally, you must keep your written evidence for five years from the date you lodge your tax return or if you:
have claimed a deduction for decline in value (formerly known as depreciation) – five years from the date of your last claim for decline in value
acquire or dispose of an asset – five years after it is certain that no capital gains tax (CGT) event can happen, so you know you don't need the records to work out a capital gain or loss
are in dispute with the ATO – the later of five years from the date you lodge your tax return or when the dispute is finalised.

I WANT TO START MY OWN BUSINESS, WHERE DO I START?
Congratulations! Starting your own business can be daunting, before you do anything, come & see us as we will make sure you do the following correctly. Decide on the most suitable structure for your business — sole trader, partnership, trust or company. Register for an Australian Business Number with the ATO and Register your Business Name. Prepare a business plan, cash flow projections, budgets, and trading forecasts. Set up a recording system such as Xero for your internal use and for complying with statutory requirements.
I WANT TO CHANGE ACCOUNTANTS, CAN YOU HELP?
If you are not satisfied with your current accountant and you want to change, it is important you do so. Firstly, you need to contact your current accountant to make sure that there is no current work pending completion and hence surprise billing. Then, we can contact your existing accountant’s office direct to make the switch, and bring all your information over. It’s as easy as that!
